Тож і я спершу панічно підлетіла з ліжка, прислухалась і заснула далі. До речі, вже насмілилась спати менш одягненою. Проте до піжами, як до Москви рачки. Хоча яка вже там Москва…

Пані Іванна є жителькою селища в Мелітопольському районі Запорізької області. З 24 лютого її громада перебуває в окупації. З того часу чимало змінилось, людям довелось підлаштовуватись до нових обставин і «влади». Багато хто виїхав до підконтрольного Україною Запоріжжя. А от про життя тих, хто залишився в окупації, розповідає мешканка одного з населених пунктів у Запорізькій області. З метою безпеки ми не будемо розкривати ані назви містечка, ані справжнє ім’я людини.

Ukraine, like Norway, is a participant in the Bologna Process and joined it in 2005. However, as we can see, it’s challenging to say that these countries have an equal level of education, and a Ukrainian diploma is valued no less than a Norwegian one. To understand why this happens, read on in the article.

Every country has its own trends, methods, and peculiarities that set it apart from others. This applies to all aspects of life. Today, let’s take a look at the methods of raising children in kindergartens in Ukraine and Norway because preschool education is the foundation that is laid in a child for their future development.

Undoubtedly, after kindergarten, parents send their children to obtain secondary education in school without hesitation, as in many countries, including the European countries of Norway and Ukraine, secondary education is mandated by law. Therefore, secondary general education school is the primary social institution that implements and makes a significant contribution to the intellectual development and self-awareness of the nation, ensuring its physical and spiritual well-being. So, what common and distinct factors are observed in the education systems of these two countries?

According to the standards of preschool education, a kindergarten aims to meet the needs of every child in terms of care, safety, and respect. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for a child to grow in a social environment, helping to develop skills such as socialization, communication, cultural integration, and language.

10 Ukrainians – 10 stories, each of which touches our hearts. A project that reveals a part of the soul of those who fight and continue to fight for the freedom of Ukraine. This is a project that tells how people’s lives changed after February 24, 2022. As part of this project, interviews were conducted with 10 speakers, where students from the USA, Turkey, and Ukraine asked them questions and discussed important topics.

Обидва поняття вважаються інформаційною зброєю, хоча її потенціал розуміє не кожен.

Деякі соромляться своєї травми, заганяючи себе в ще більший “глухий кут”.Багато жертв вважають себе винними в тому, що трапилося, замислюються над тим, що могли спровокувати ґвалтівника, що докорінно невірно.

Обізнаність суспільства може привести до того, що недобросовісні журналісти втратять сенс застосовувати маніпуляції.

Надзвичайно важким викликом для сфери освіти в Україні стала повномасштабна війна. Понад тисячу закладів освіти, серед яких школи, коледжі та університети, було зруйновано чи пошкоджено російськими окупантами з початку вторгнення. Особливо вражає стійкість та незламність молоді України, яка попри складні реалії війни, не лише здобуває омріяну освіту, але й допомагає наближати нашу перемогу.

Порівнюючи використання в Україні та у країні-агресора, то можемо зробити висновок, що ми користуємося переважно однаковими. І це частково є проблемою.

В інтерв’ю Катерина, молода жінка, розповідає про те, як вона опинилась у складній ситуації через початок повномасштабного вторгнення та знайшла себе в активізмі. Коли стало очевидно, що ситуація не покращується, Катерина вирішили поїхати до Німеччини.

The project “Ukrainian Youth Changing the World”, supported by the Norwegian organisation “The Fritt Ord Foundation”, aims to collect and publish in Ukrainian and English the stories of achievements and proactive actions of young Ukrainians from different walks of life, with different education, beliefs and lifestyles. They are volunteers, refugees, young soldiers, members of NGOs, founders of voluntary foundations and movements who are doing their best to help our soldiers and our country win the fight against the Russian occupier.

As part of the “Ukrainian youth is changing the world” project, we tell the stories of the achievements and proactive actions of young Ukrainians from different walks of life, with different levels of education, beliefs, and lifestyles. We are very pleased that Ukrainian journalist Sofiia Nazarenko has responded to this call to share her experience. Sofiia works as an editor in the international analysis department at Channel 24. She mainly interviews the highest representatives of Ukraine’s partner countries. She also holds a master’s degree in political science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (2023).

As part of the project “Ukrainian youth is changing the world,” we collect and share stories of proactive actions by young Ukrainians with different backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles. Today, Alina Avramenko, a member of the legal department of the charitable foundation “UAID,” will share the story of the foundation’s creation and activities and also talk about why she decided to join the volunteer movement.

When someone tells a very emotional story, I may look like a completely indifferent person. But that is the barrier that every volunteer has to build, otherwise they will only have the energy for one or three such stories. This does not mean that there is no empathy, no, there is. But a certain coldness helps.

Our partners, NGO “Kyiv Defenders”, interviewed an American who came to defend the independence of Ukraine. “During the conversation, Alex “Beef” impressed us with his preparation and steadfastness. Unfortunately, on the eve of the release of the interview, we learned that Alex was seriously injured and is currently being treated. This course, Oral Communication Techniques in Broadcast Media, aims to help students pursuing careers in journalism, particularly in broadcast media, develop and strengthen their oral communication skills. The course objectives include mastering the theoretical and practical techniques necessary for correct breathing, voice production, articulation, diction, and pronunciation.

One of the most crucial aspects of the cultural identity of the Ukrainian people is the state language. The attitude of citizens towards the language and its significance has been particularly influenced by Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine (since 2014). To find out how the younger generation has changed its perception of the Ukrainian language and its role in the country’s life, we conducted a survey among students of the Volodymyr Dahl Eastern Ukrainian National University.

16 жовтня у Вінниці вперше був зареєстрований спалах гепатиту А. Станом на вечір 27 жовтня було вже зареєстровано 141 пацієнт середньої важкості, зазначає на офіційній сторінці у Facebook Міністерство охорони здоров’я.

By sharing this story, we want to draw society’s attention to the issue of violence against women, which has become particularly acute since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The state of Ukraine and we, its citizens, must do everything possible to ensure unimpeded access to legal, psychological, and other necessary assistance for those who have suffered from violence. Unfortunately, as experience shows, we will hear many more such stories after the de-occupation of our territories.

Нейробіологи з Падуанського університету в Італії разом з колегами з Національного центру наукових досліджень Франції (CNRS) знайшли докази того, що на розвиток нервової системи малюків в утробі матері впливає мова, яку вони чують.

На Рівненщині за вересень 2023 року підтвердили 52 випадки захворювання на туберкульоз. В Україні за серпень цього ж року виявили 1 424 випадки, з них 1 046 у чоловіків.

За півтора року повномасштабного вторгнення кількість українців з інвалідністю зросла на 300 тисяч. Освіта для дітей та молоді з особливостями психофізичного розвитку є важливою формою їх соціального захисту, реальним шансом створити передумови для подальшого самостійного і незалежного життя, трудової діяльності.

З нагоди Міжнародного дня людей з інвалідністю Truthful Reporting розповідає історію особливих героїв, які  не лише надають підтримку та допомогу людям з інвалідністю, але й вивозять їх із найнебезпечніших зон. Ігор Логвінов – волонтер та засновник благодійного фонду «FREEDOM TRUST», який врятував тисячі людей з-під обстрілів, а зараз продовжує допомагати нашим бійцям на фронті.

3 грудня відзначається Міжнародний день людей з інвалідністю. Ми хочемо привернути увагу до проблем, з якими щодня стикаються ці люди. Truthful Reporting розповідає історію 20-річної Крістіни з Херсону, яка живе під майже щоденними обстрілами. Дівчина розповіла нам про те, як їй довелось відмовитись від улюблених занять через війну.

Тріумф Правосуддя: Після десяти років судових процесів у Нідерландах історична колекція стародавніх скарбів з музеїв Криму повернулася в Україну. Колекція включає 565 експонатів на суму $10 млн.   

Щотижня в Культурному хабі “Донеччина”, створеному за підтримкою Донецької обласної адміністрації в Києві, проходять заходи для  дітей та дорослих переселенців, які спрямовані на покращення психоемоційного стану. Організатором є обласне комунальне підприємство “Центр кіномистецтва та культури”. Всі заходи, що проводяться в центрі є безоплатними.

Наші партнери – проєкт «Єдині» уже понад рік допомагають усім охочим перейти на українську. І за цей час вже досягли значних результатів, зокрема понад 102 000 учасників взяли участь у їхніх заходах, а розмовні клуби проєкту працюють в Україні та Європі. На думку наших партнерів, новий законопроєкт про національні меншини створює загрозу українській мові. Позиція проєкту “Єдині” щодо законопроєкту далі у матеріалі від партнерів.

На минулих вихідних на Софіївський площі встановили головну ялинку країни. Цьогоріч замість зірки на верхівку встановили герб.

Окупаційна адміністрація незаконно вивезла червонокнижних тварин з біосферного заповідника “Асканія-Нова”, що розташований на Херсонщині, до Росії. “З асканійського зоопарку вивезли по декілька особин зебри Чапмана, бізона американського, коней Пржевальського та оленя Давида”, – розповів Руслан Стрілець. Статус цих тварин – “зниклий з природи”, “на межі зникнення” та “близький до тих, які перебувають під загрозою знищення.

В Україні запустили Єдиний реєстр осіб, засуджених за злочини проти статевої свободи і статевої недоторканості малолітньої особи.
На думку Офісу генпрокурора, реєстр стане запобіжник повторного вчинення злочинів проти статевої недоторканості дітей.

З 1 грудня працівники інфозон головних вокзалів Києва та Львова отримали спеціальні планшети, зі встановленою програмою для пасажирів з порушеннями слуху. Програма дозволяє спілкуватися співробітникам вокзалу з пасажирами за допомогою української жестової мови. Для цього працівник звертається до перекладача через відеозв’язок. Протягом 2024 року проєкт планується масштабувати на вокзали з великим потоком пасажирів.

У селищі Рокитне на Київщині між школярками відбулася сварка, після чого дві неповнолітні побили 12-річну дівчину. Жорстокість підлітків вражає. Наразі потерпіла знаходиться у лікарні, у подальшому медиками буде надана оцінка з приводу ступеня тяжкості тілесних ушкоджень. Надалі порушниць разом із батьками було запрошено до відділу поліції для надання пояснень.

Із настанням холодів прикордонники фіксують зростання кількості диких тварин, які блукають карпатськими лісами і можуть бути небезпечними. “Вкотре застерігаємо любителів екстремальних подорожей і порушників кордону, що крім паводку, снігу, морозу в прикордонних лісах можна також зустріти також диких тварин, які можуть нести загрозу життю та здоров’ю людини.

У Верховній Раді хочуть зобов’язати українців носити з собою військовий квиток. Таким чином, хочуть уникнути питань пов’язаних з тим, чи є громадянин військовозобов’язаним або не військовозобов’язаним, чи може отримати повістку чи не може.

8 грудня під час моніторингу соціальних мереж співробітники поліції Львівщини виявили відео, на якому студенти старших курсів училища били першокурсників цього ж навчального закладу. У присутності багатьох очевидців старші завдавали ударів молодшим в голову та груди боксерськими рукавицями. У відомстві заявили, що винуватців відрахували з Червоненського вищого професійного училища та виселили з гуртожитку.

Книжка Мар’яни й Тараса Прохаськів “Хто зробить сніг” увійшла до рейтингу найкращих книжок для дітей та підлітків 2023 року від The New York Times. У рейтинг The New York Times потрапила версія в англомовному перекладі Бориса Дралюка і Дженіфер Крофт видавництва Elsewhere Editions. Оригінальну книжку випустило Видавництво Старого Лева, яке вже привітало авторів.

У 2024 році держава виплатить роботодавцям 660 млн грн компенсації за облаштування 10 тисяч робочих місць для людей з інвалідністю. Про це повідомляє Міністерство економіки України. “Ми закладаємо на цю програму 660 млн грн. In a show of solidarity, Ukrainians gathered in the heart of Scotland’s capital to protest against the relentless Russian shelling targeting Ukrainian cities. The Ukrainian Victory Campaign organized the demonstration on January 3, uniting dozens of Ukrainians from various regions of Scotland outside the Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh.

We are delighted that Sofia Meleshko, a volunteer and journalist, has answered the call to tell her story. Sofia currently works as a volunteer and military interpreter for the NGO “Sabre”, which provides training and advice to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard and the TR (Territorial defense forces).

During the unfolding Russian war in Ukraine, the story of Kateryna Sementsova, who hails from the Donetsk region, takes on profound significance. It’s crucial to note that for over a decade, this region has been embroiled in a Russian war. Amid instability and danger, Kateryna has become a refugee more than once. Her narrative not only reflects her struggle for survival during wartime but also underscores the importance of preserving cultural heritage and self-awareness amidst migration.

We have an interesting personality, Anton Dombrovsky, a businessman, volunteer, and activist who changes the world around him through his activities and many projects. He agreed to share his story. He has been volunteering since a very young age, helping the army and IDPs.

We continue the conversation with Anton Dombrovsky. Today, he will answer the following questions: Does he organize any events in Khmelnytsky? Who is his mysterious muse? Why did the business of the young activist fail?

Stella Marchuk, 29, works in IT and devotes her free time to her art, creating souvenirs with her own illustrations. For her, this is the perfect balance, although it took some time to find. In the early days of the full-scale invasion, the artist did not understand how she could make art, but later she saw it as a tool to capture memories and emotions and to volunteer. Now she sends her postcards to military hospitals to express words of support and gratitude for our defence through art, and donates part of the proceeds to the Ukrainian army. 

We continue our interview with Anna. Today we will learn more about her participation in various scholarship programmes and her interactions with European politicians. Finally, she will tell us what Ukraine’s victory in this war means to her and how she interprets this concept.

At first, no one believed that Nadiya Radchuk from Rivne had the right idea to visit the wounded in hospital. But the 24-year-old president of the Rivne Rotaract Club persevered, and was touched by the gratitude of the wounded. Denys Verteletskyi, an extremely proactive Ukrainian from Dnipro region, accepted the invitation to tell his story. He is a person who is truly passionate about what he does and, despite his young age, he is the founder of the charitable foundation «Voices from Ukraine» which is located in Warsaw, Poland.

More than 500 individuals gathered for a solidarity rally with Ukraine in Edinburgh, commemorating the second anniversary of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. The initiative “Ukrainian Victory Campaign” alongside local activists, organized a demonstration “United for Ukraine – Together to Victory” near the Consulate General of Russia in Edinburgh on February 24, 2024.

In the very heart of Scotland, in the city of Glasgow, lives and studies Anna Konovalenko – a Ukrainian who has personally experienced the consequences of the Russian war. The beginning of the invasion forced her to leave her native Kyiv and go abroad in search of safety. She is currently furthering her education at the University of the West of Scotland, focusing on studying journalism and joining volunteer initiatives in support of Ukraine at the same time. In this piece, she will share her impressions and thoughts about how she continues to work for the victory of Ukraine, even while abroad and will reveal the role of journalism in this context.

Edinburgh Spiders initiative serves as a beacon of civic solidarity, bringing together young individuals from various backgrounds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These centers, dedicated to weaving camouflage nets for the military in Edinburgh, have been operational for several years, attracting hundreds of visitors and volunteers from both Ukrainian and local communities. Anna, Daria, Olena, and Vasyl stand among them, each driven by their own motivations, volunteer experiences, and aspirations for the future. Their involvement in this center transcends mere support; it symbolizes a profound solidarity with those who courageously defend Ukraine’s freedom and independence.

A new wave of heroism and volunteering has grown in response to the terrible reality of war, where every day has become a new challenge for millions of people, where every hour brings uncertainty and fear. Kateryna Kolosova, a native of Kherson region, is one of those tireless fighters for our victory. Our character found strength and courage in order to help those who needed it the most. Her story, from art to charity, is a great example of the exceptional power of the human will and strong faith in goodness. In this interview, she will talk about her experience of volunteering during the war and the crucial importance of timely support.

We talk to Natalia Vasylieva about how she came across the news of the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, how she saw the beginning of the full-scale invasion from the window of her apartment in Saltovka, Kharkiv. Also touch on how she continues to write and publish, documenting military events and providing a literary launching pad for young Ukrainian writers.

In Scotland resides Nadiia, a 20-year-old Ukrainian student, who was compelled to leave her homeland due to the onset of a large-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Since then, Nadiia has become an active participant in events supporting Ukraine, holding the position of vice president of the Glasgow University Ukrainian Society. Alongside her team, she assists in organizing various events aimed at bolstering Ukrainian military support, fostering community engagement, and promoting Ukrainian culture in Scotland. In this interview, we delve into her life in a new country, her efforts to cultivate the university community, and her perspectives on aiding Ukraine amidst Russian aggression.

Roman Alimaskin is an exceptional person who embodies a true dedication to his culture and his country. Since childhood, he has cherished his love for literature, which has turned into wonderful poetry evenings in all parts of Ukraine. Roman has gone through his own difficult path of derussification. Since 2014, he has become a devoted promoter of Ukrainian culture and a fighter for equal rights for all. He decided to live in his native language and popularize it. Roman calls on all of us to fight for our country here and now. Today we will learn more about the unique cultural project Marmur, its vision and principles.

How to start a dialogue with the characters of the plot? What to do when people are against being filmed? These questions were discussed at the lecture by Dr. Andrew Giarelli, a professor at the Anglo-American University in Prague, which marked the beginning of the partnership certificate course “True Reporting: Even When It Hurts” from Volodymyr Dahl National University and the Student Journalism Platform NGO.

Media and democracy, how do they coexist and depend on each other? Leif Lonsmann acquainted students with the role of a free press in democratic countries, emphasizing that the media should deliver truth to society and shape public opinion. They also discussed how the free media manifests itself as the fourth estate in a country.

Matthias Vedeler, an advisor to the Norwegian Press Council, which serves as a public regulator in conflicts regarding the violation of rights and adherence to journalistic standards, told students about the specifics of applying the Journalist’s Ethical Code in Norway.

On April 18, a lecture on “Ukraine, Russian propaganda, and Norwegian media” took place. This time the speaker was Bjоrn Johan Berger, a Norwegian blogger, a member of the Board of the Norwegian-Ukrainian Friendship Society, and a freelance author for several Norwegian newspapers and magazines. Bjоrn introduced students to the mood in Norway, characterizing it as “deep historical calm” and “naivety.” At the same time, he noted that the younger generation of Norwegians demonstrates a high level of media literacy.

The guest lecturer for the final meeting was Austin Malloy, an American journalist, multimedia editor, and video journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Austin has extensive experience working in post-Soviet countries, including stints at the Kyiv Post and Voice of America. He shared his perspectives on the journalism profession in modern times and talked about his own professional journey. Responding to students’ questions, the guest emphasized that despite the rapid pace of information technology development, the fundamental skill for journalists remains creating texts.

As part of the project «War Diary: Stories of Ukrainian Resistance», truthful reporting collects and shares stories about Ukrainian proactive youth, who having different backgrounds, education and lifestyles, changes the world. Today, Evelina Slyvynska shares her story of being forced to leave her home because of the war, not once, but twice and her journey to become a volunteer.

Mrs Evelina talks about how life prompted her to establish a charity foundation and tells us some of the insights on how the work is organised. She also shares some of the touching stories of people she helps.

When we hear the word «war», we think about thousands of dead people, animals, and destroyed cities and villages. When we see the consequences of this war in photos or videos, we feel a huge range of emotions: from pain to horror, from tears to screams. These pictures are difficult to erase from memory. Taras creates these images so that we are not forgotten, so that the war is not forgotten.

«How are you?» This is the question we ask our loved ones from the very first days of the war. This phrase became the key to founding micro-media Yaktytam, co-founded by Kostiantyn Andriiv. In our conversation, Kostiantyn talks about the values of love and respect for his hometown, the importance of creating a civil society, and the role of micro-media in the reconstruction of Zaporizhzhya. Our hero emphasizes the importance of supporting the LGBT community in Ukraine, because everyone should have the right to respect and equal opportunities, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Europe Day has been celebrated in Ukraine for many years, and this year is no exception. On May 25, Mystetskyi Arsenal brought together many public figures, experts, CSO representatives, Kyiv residents and guests to celebrate the Together We Act Fest festival organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. The celebration was the leading event of the All-Ukrainian communication campaign on EU support for civil society and independent media in Ukraine “Together We Act. Together we are Europe”, which started on May 3 and will last until the end of July 2024 in all regions of Ukraine.

For many, joint fundraisings became a common reality. Today, they are spreading all over social media at an almost unimaginable speed. By opening a joint fundraising page, everyone can make an effort to help our soldiers. Zbirolovy is a voluntary organisation that coordinates joint fundraisers. Today, as part of the “War Diary: Stories of the Ukrainian Resistance” project, Danyil Tiurikov talks about truthful reporting about joint fundraisings, Zbirolovy and his way to this point.

Yana Bielska often divides her time between two cities: Kyiv, where she has been living for 10 years, and Konotop, in the Sumy region, where she was born and where her parents live. Together they design embroidered clothing to ensure that the Ukrainian tradition of wearing embroidered clothing lives on. Yana dedicates everything she creates to the memory of her husband, Dmytro Shapoval, who volunteered for the army and died for Ukraine in the summer of 2022.

During her stay in occupied Kherson, photographer Maria Pulia took pictures of her hometown to record it for history while it was still intact. Taking risks, she photographed a pro-Ukrainian rally while Russian occupiers stood opposite with weapons drawn, and created her own photo project on the unity of Kherson with the whole of Ukraine while enemy military vehicles drove past her windows. Six months later, she decided to leave, and when she read the news of the city’s liberation in early November 2022, she burst into tears on the metro. 

The Sospilnist Foundation, with the support of Internews-Ukraine and the online publication Detector Media, invites final-year bachelor’s and master’s students from journalism schools from all regions of the country to participate in the competitive selection for the «Media Mobility Hub» internship program.

Alina Shvets has been part of the charitable foundation «Riy» for over two years.
The heroine not only creates content, but also actively volunteers and supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Her story is fascinating and inspiring, and her contribution to the development of charity is a great example for many.
Alina combines multiple roles: volunteer, SMM specialist, content creator, and still finds time for family, hobbies, and social activities. As part of the project «War Diary: Stories of the Ukrainian Resistance» we will learn more about her journey with the «Riy», her work on creating inspiring and motivating content, as well as her hobbies and life principles.

“It has nothing to do with me. Leave me out of it… I just don’t work that way,” said the hero of today’s interview, an army soldier with the call sign Malyuk [Baby in English]. The unique story of a Ukrainian military cyborg who, despite numerous injuries, continues to defend the country since 2014.

Valeria Samoshyna is a promising TV journalist who is actively improving in this field. As a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, she makes a significant contribution to the development of the country’s media space. Valeria Samoshyna is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Ukrainian Studies at the Volodymyr Dahl Eastern Ukrainian National University. She shares her experience with future journalists, and also shapes a new approach to media education.

While everyone else was traveling from the border towns to the center of Ukraine, Kristina But returned home to Melitopol on the first day after encountering the full-scale invasion in Zaporizhzhia. There, she found her purpose in resisting the occupation and participating in pro-Ukrainian protests.

Ksenia Kharaman began her artistic career in Donetsk, a city that has left an indelible mark on her heart. However, turbulent events and hostilities forced her to leave her home. This is the story of the Ukrainian artist who became a volunteer and coordinator of the «Restoration of the Donetsk Region Stele» project.

Anastasia Goncharova encountered the full-scale invasion in Cyprus, where she had been working for several years. Without hesitation, she agreed to coordinate the company’s efforts to help the Ukrainian military, and later opened her first collection, which was successful. Since then, she hasn’t stopped, raising around eight million hryvnias, using funny memes, publishing touching posts and spending three hours a day sending personal pleas to support the next collection. Although she had the opportunity to stay, she returned to Ukraine in 2023. She does not think she is doing anything special. She believes that everyone with a Ukrainian passport should help save the lives of the defenders.

Kristina But learned firsthand what loss is and how difficult it is to find good and affordable support. Her pain and the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine called Kristina to create a centre where support and psychological help exist in open access for everyone. Platform «Бути» is Kristina’s response to loss.

Look, spoil tip! I said that after encountering each one on my way. They laughed because they were taking me home. The story of the first flight to her home region during the war, of joining a volunteer organisation and of pockets full of coal.

Olya is an exceptionally talented, multifaceted individual who shares her story of Ukrainian resistance to russian aggression. She actively volunteers by raising funds for the military, and writes poems that reflect her deep love for Ukraine. Olha’s creative pseudonym «krylata ryba» symbolizes her dreamy and creative nature, which strives to create beauty even in the most difficult times. Poetry is her personal therapy, helping her cope with pain and emotions, and restoring her inspiration to live and fight.

Volodymyr Krutevych originally from the town of Kremenets in the Ternopil region and he is 21 years old now. He has been volunteering since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The young man has made over 50 trips to the front line and has also visited most of the de-occupied territories in more than two years of war.
Despite numerous risks and dangers, he delivers the most essential items to military and civilians: food, medicine, clothes, equipment, etc. Volodymyr believes that we must withstand the enemy’s offensive and constantly help our defenders and Ukrainians in need.
The hero of our story brings back emotional photos that capture what he saw from each mission. We spoke with Volodymyr Krutevych about the “backstage” of volunteering, war photography, and the impact of the war on his morale in the home front.

Volodymyr Krutevych, a 21-year-old volunteer from Ternopil region, has made dozens of visits to the most dangerous areas of the front, where he delivers aid to Ukrainian defenders. The volunteer also takes care of civilian citizens in de-occupied territories and places close to the line of contact. From the first days of russian invasion, the young man has been capturing the moments he sees on camera: destroyed settlements, remnants of military equipment, explosion craters, emotions of war victims. His footage leaves no one indifferent. We talked with Volodymyr Krutevych about people who don’t leave their homes even despite mortal danger, the role of photography, and resisting harmful narratives spread by the enemy.

On May 18, our partners, the Separate Division of the NGO «AIESEC in Ukraine» in Kyiv, held an event dedicated to the career beginnings of Ukrainian youth. In Portugal resides 21-year-old Sophie, a Ukrainian volunteer who was forced to leave Kyiv due to the full-scale Russian invasion. Today, she is actively developing the Ukrainian community in Portugal, garnering resources to support the Ukrainian army. Together with her friends, Sophie has already raised over 18 million hryvnias (430k+ USD) to aid Ukraine and considers this just the beginning. In this article, we will learn about Sophie’s adaptation in Portugal, her life in the diaspora, as well as the development of Ukrainian business, creativity, and volunteering through the eyes of a young activist.

For over a year now, Ms. Inna has been a volunteer with Kyiv Defenders and works with the team, which loves what they are doing. What is an inspiration for volunteering, and why is it important? The NGO “Student Journalism Platform” invites active, creative and caring young people to join the work of our online publication Truthful Reporting.

Playwright, screenwriter, journalist and war correspondent Oksana Grytsenko is sharing her years of professional experience, advice and valuable insights from working in the media with our students. Oksana has long worked in English language journalism, travelling to and reporting from war zones. In recent years, she has been writing plays, which have been performed in various cities in Ukraine and abroad. And her play Don Juan of Zhashkiv became the basis for the script of a feature film of the same name, to be produced by Kristi Films in 2021.

Today I had the opportunity to talk to one of Ukraine’s young ambitious people, Sofiia Yevchenko. Despite her young age, she has already completed internships in various institutions and organisations, is actively involved in the development of the European Youth Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative in Ukraine, is a member of the Academy of Youth Diplomacy “United Youth”, the Women’s League and the Coordination Platform of Ukrainians Abroad, and has completed internships at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Sofiia is currently interning at the IFES Ukraine office.

I had the opportunity to talk to Oleksandra Gotsuliak. Oleksandra is an activist and a member of the language NGO RVN (Making You Nervous), which works to de-Russify Odesa. She works as a scriptwriter in the video team, where she is involved in creating materials that help rethink the linguistic and cultural environment of the city. She is also editor-in-chief of the student publication DeFacto.

The war in Ukraine. The biggest armed conflict the world has seen since the Second World War. The most devastating invasion in the heart of Europe since the days of the Nazis and Hitler, one that has created millions of refugees, destroyed homes and raised the threat of all-out nuclear war to unimaginable levels. I think it has never been greater, especially since the end of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States.

Еволюція – одна з важливих сходинок суспільства до власного самовдосконалення, а тому наука та інновації мають велике значення в їх житті. Дослідження проводяться щороку у великій кількості, люди намагаються створити щось нове, але не все має успіх. Проте діджиталізація не лише стала «успішним проєктом», але і вплинула на безліч сфер життя сучасного суспільства.

Процеси діджиталізації сприяли не лише можливості перенесення друкованих варіантів журналів і газет, передач із телебачення чи радіо, а й створенню нових форматів. Якщо говорити про друковані медіа: одні – залишали традиційне видання і розробляли паралельно сайт, або ж створювали відразу два формати видання одночасно, інші – від початку створення обирали онлайн-варіант і працювали лише з ним.

Будь-яка інформація чинить вплив на людину, тому роль медіа є значущою. Журналісти – головні інформатори суспільства, неформальна четверта гілка влади. Тому регулювання медіапростору є важливим процесом, за яким мають слідкувати як держава, так і медіа.

Telling the stories of Ukrainians who were victims of Russian aggression, honouring the civilians and military who gave their lives for our freedom — all this is of great value today, when Ukraine has been defending its independence from the Russian army for more than 10 years. These are people with their own history, with different dreams and goals, and we need to know about them. That is why it is so important that the project that preserves the memory of our heroes and tells their stories, the Memorial Platform:Victims of Russia, was recognised as the best social project of 2024 in the annual award organised by the Ukrayinska Pravda media outlet. 
We were delighted to have the opportunity to speak with Yulia Lozynska, the editor-in-chief of the platform.

Війна в Україні загострила необхідність ефективної соціальної підтримки ветеранів. Київська область, маючи значну кількість ветеранів, стикається із проблемами доступності та якості соціальних послуг.

Фастівська громада реалізує ініціативу «Єдине вікно ветерана», яка є частиною ширшої стратегії підтримки ветеранів та їхніх родин. Основна мета — спростити доступ до послуг для ветеранів, забезпечити інтеграцію у громаду та створити системну підтримку, яка виходить за межі волонтерських ініціатив.

The NGO “Platform for Student Journalism” has united three universities to implement an ambitious project, with the first step being an English-language course titled “The Norwegian Model of Freedom of Speech for Ukrainian Journalism Students.”

Екологічний стан України – важливий аспект сьогодення як українців, так і найближчих з нею країн. Адже вся екосистема впливає на умови, якість і тривалість життя людства і тваринного світу. Збереження екологічної спадщини є надзвичайно важливим завданням, оскільки вона є частиною національної ідентичності, історичної пам’яті та природного багатства країни. В умовах війни питання екологічної безпеки набуває нових вимірів — воно стосується не лише охорони природи, а й екологічної реабілітації та стратегії сталого відновлення.

До війни тут були природні заповідники, природні та регіональні парки, парки-пам’ятки садово-паркового мистецтва, заповідні урочища тощо. Однак події російсько-української війни спричинили погіршення екологічного стану, глобальне руйнування екосистеми, забруднення атмосфери, води та ґрунту.

Донецьк – столиця Донбасу, яка знаходиться на березі річки Кальміус. До початку війни 2014 року це місто було мегаполісом з розвиненою інфраструктурою, квітучим бізнесом, великою кількістю паркових і лісових зон, куди з’їжджалися мешканці України на фестиваль «Червона рута», а також тисячі студентів гуляли на природі після занять в університеті.

Одещина — найбільша за площею (33,3 тисячі квадратних кілометрів) область України. Регіон вирізняється високим рівнем розвитку в економічній, туристичній, культурній та науковій сферах. Одеська область багата на природні ресурси, унікальні ландшафти, морські узбережжя та степові зони. Екологічний стан регіону постійно був під наглядом екологів, але після розгортання повномасштабної війни Росії в Україну стан довкілля регіону змінився.

Херсонщина – регіон, розташований на півдні України. До його складу входять три міста, 30 селищ міського типу та 708 сіл. Херсонська область – важлива не лише з економічної точки зору, а й з екологічної. На її території є важливі для аграрного сектору, розвитку водних ресурсів і біорізноманіття природні ресурси. На початку повномасштабного вторгнення 2022 року російські війська окупували частину області. Запорізька область – один з промислових центрів України. У довоєнний період регіон зіштовхувався з певними екологічними проблемами, проте від початку повномасштабного вторгнення ситуація ускладнилась. А детальніше про техногенні виклики, військово-екологічний тиск і наслідки дій країни-агресора – розповідаємо далі.

Дніпропетровська область – мальовнича частина України, розташована на південному сході. До повномасштабного вторгнення Дніпропетровщина була найбільш навантажена підприємствами та заводами, тому екологія регіону страждала. Дніпро, Кривий Ріг та Кам’янське систематично входили до списку найбільш забруднених населених пунктів України.

28 квітня стартував англомовний курс лекцій «Норвезька модель свободи слова для українських студентів-журналістів». Відкривав програму курсу Бйорн Бергер — блогер, громадський активіст, член Товариства дружби «Норвегія–Україна».

6 кілометрів на милицях. 52 хвилини боротьби. Один із сотень учасників, але з історією, яка сильніша за будь-які результати. Іван Артюх взяв участь у масовому забігу «Характер Спорт», ставши справжнім символом незламності. Його виступ не тільки вражає фізичною витривалістю, але й відкриває важливу суспільну проблему: недостатню інклюзію людей з інвалідністю у масовий спорт.

10–11 травня відбувся турнір «Ліга дужих», який об’єднав команди з різних куточків України, що виступають у форматі ампфутболу — футболу для гравців з ампутацією кінцівок. Цей дводенний змагальний марафон став не лише випробуванням фізичних можливостей, а й яскравою демонстрацією сили волі та спортивної гідності.

Перші пісні Абіє почали з’являтись на Spotify у 2022-2023 роках. Багато людей вперше почули про Абіє під час Нацвідбору, захопившись її промовою та піснею, що торкалась історій жінок з досвідом сексуального насилля. Ми вирішили більше дізнатися про становлення Абіє як феміністки, її творчість та Нацвідбір.

The project aims to collect and publish, in Ukrainian and English, the life stories of civilians undergoing external rehabilitation after being injured as a result of military operations in Ukraine. These stories will include people with different life experiences, professions and views, and will show how they are rebuilding their lives, finding new meaning and overcoming personal and social challenges. We will look at their psychological journey, the development of a new self-identity and the reaction of society to their changes.

Today, we’re listening to the story of Andriy Polishchuk — a veteran, police officer, Plast scout, and a man of great character. For him, May 25 is not just a date. It’s the day his life changed forever: an explosion, injury, the fight for survival, surgeries, rehabilitation — and at the same time, a journey toward a new sense of self, inner strength, and sincere human connection. We spoke with Andriy about how the world changes after the front line, what helps with recovery — not only physical but emotional — how important it is to accept yourself, and how even simple, genuine support can move mountains. And also about Plast, the Carpathians, children, rock climbing, kind people, and life — life that goes on.

Пам’ять не потребує яскравих жестів – вона зберігається в дрібницях, у звучанні голосу, на світлинах, у словах і серцях близьких. Навіть після смерті Володимир залишається поряд – у наших спогадах, у його діях, у всьому, що залишив нам. Його історія – це не лише про втрату, а й про світло, яке продовжує світити.

У країні, де підлітки нерідко залишаються наодинці зі своїми страхами, невизначеністю та відсутністю належної підтримки, організація Young Life вже понад три десятиліття пропонує молодим людям безпечний простір. Nadiia’s story is not just about pain and loss, it is a story of incredible strength and resilience. Nadiia and her daughter became victims of a tragedy that caused unhealable wounds. Even after all they’ve been through, Nadiia and her family keep going — step by step. They not only move forward but inspire others, too. It’s about Vadym, a veteran who faced the horrors of a blast injury, severe wounds, a grueling rehabilitation, and an inner fight for peace of mind. Vadym honestly tells about the long road to recovery. Months were filled with pain, perseverance, and hope. This is a story of resilience, a will that wouldn’t bend.

Today we’re sharing Ivan’s story. He’s a war veteran who fought in Popasna. He survived life-threatening injuries, intensive care, and a long recovery and now he’s building his own business. This is a story of pain, strength, loss, and the struggle to get used to a new version of yourself and the desire to keep living, without turning away from the past.

He returned alive and stronger. This story is about Bohdan, a Ukrainian serviceman who was wounded during combat operations near Vovchansk. Broken bones, evacuation under fire, surgeries, pain, rehabilitation, recovery, new challenges and new strength. Bohdan didn’t just survive. He didn’t let pity or pain break him. He returned to life, work, family and continues building the future. His words are simple, but behind them is experience. This is a direct, honest story with much pain, but even more light.

In this part of our series, we speak with Artem Komisarсhuk, a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He survived being a prisoner of war, endured severe injury and amputation. Despite all this, he found the strength to return to life and rejoin into society. Artem shares his story of struggle, a long and difficult recovery, emotional roller coasters, and the path he took to accept himself again. This is the story of a man who survived and find new meaning in the most difficult circumstances.

In this part of the interview, we’ll hear from Artem’s wife, Tetiana Komisarchuk. This is the story of a woman who was always by her husband’s side: receiving the worst news, holding the family together, caring for her beloved, helping his brothers-in-arms, and volunteering. Her story is that of a wife and mother who experiences trauma alongside her husband while remaining his strongest support.

This is the story of Svitlana, a woman who survived a drone attack in Kherson. The injury changed not only her body, but also her mindset, her attitude toward life, and her relationships with those around her. She lost her sense of security, but not her strength. Svitlana endured pain, fear, rehabilitation, and an inner struggle to prove that even when it seems like everything is lost, there is always a chance to recover. Her path is a story about both the horrors of war and resilience. It’s about Kherson, where courageous people continue to live and work despite constant shelling. It’s about a love for life that helps you endure even when you feel like you have no strength left.

У час, коли освітня система України переживає величезні виклики — пандемія, війна, вимушені переселення, зруйнована інфраструктура — з’являється новий формат, який змінює не лише модель навчання, а й саму культуру взаємодії між молоддю й дітьми. Студментор – це програма про партнерство, коли старші молоді люди не лише передають знання з предмета, а й допомагають дитині відкритися: поставити запитання, поділитися мріями, побачити, як навчання і життя переплітаються. З іншого — це не просто підтримка академічного рівня, а розвиток критичного мислення, емоційної стійкості, самостійності.

Вони стоять там, де мовчить світ. Коли більшість людей ховається в укриття, вони виходять назустріч звуку сирен. Українські воєнні журналісти сьогодні – це не просто фахівці слова. Це люди, які щодня ризикують життям, щоб зафіксувати правду про війну. Їхні історії – це документальні свідчення мужності, розпачу й сили, які тримають країну.

Коли в країні лунають сирени, а міста стирають із мапи, журналістика перестає бути просто професією. Вона стає формою спротиву, способом показати світу, що Україна живе й бореться. Після 24 лютого 2022 року українські журналісти опинилися буквально на лінії фронту – з мікрофоном, камерою чи блокнотом замість зброї. І разом із тим постало питання: як залишатися чесним, не втрачаючи людяності?

Найгірше під час війни не вибухи. Найгірше, коли тиша. Вона лягає на груди важче за бронежилет. Ти знаєш, що після тиші завжди щось буде, і це «щось» рідко хороше. Ми, журналісти, не герої. Ми просто ті, хто не може відійти вбік. Бо якщо не знімеш, ніби й не було. І від цього страшно: реальність може зникнути, якщо її не покажеш.

Під час війни навіть слово може стати мішенню. Те, що ще вчора здавалося звичайним журналістським матеріалом, сьогодні може коштувати комусь життя. Українські журналісти вперше за довгі роки зіткнулися з тим, що свобода слова має не лише межі, а й ціну. І часто ця ціна не репутаційна, а цілком реальна, вимірювана людськими життями.

Війна змінює не лише міста й людські долі – вона змінює саме поняття правди. Те, що журналіст раніше показував без вагань, тепер змушує його зупинитися й подумати: «Чи не стане цей кадр останнім для когось іншого?» Під час війни слова й фотографії отримують іншу вагу. Вони можуть викривати злочини, підтримувати мораль, рятувати пам’ять – або завдати болю, який не має виправдання.

Інформаційна війна не має фронту, але має лінію, яку кожен з нас відчуває всередині. Вона проходить не через міста чи карти, а через довіру. Через те, у що ми віримо й кого слухаємо. Ця війна не пахне димом, не лишає уламків на землі, але залишає їх у голові. Ти відкриваєш телефон, гортаєш стрічку, бачиш десятки повідомлень – і вже не розумієш, де правда, а де лише тінь, створена кимось, хто хоче, щоб ти сумнівався.

Коли почалася повномасштабна війна, я вперше відчув, що інформація може бути швидшою за вибух. Telegram розривався від сповіщень, YouTube – від емоцій, а стрічка новин нагадувала фронт, де щосекунди народжується правда й брехня. Ти відкриваєш телефон, а там ще одна «ексклюзивна» історія, ще одне «очевидне відео». Іноді здається, що війна тепер відбувається не лише на землі, а й у руках тих, хто тримає смартфон.

Війна змінила не лише політичні карти, а й саму сутність журналістики. Там, де раніше звучали студійні ефіри, сьогодні гудуть сирени. І серед тих, хто показує світові цю війну, дедалі більше жінок. Вони працюють поруч із військовими, ризикуючи життям, щоб зберегти пам’ять, правду й людяність.

Після перемоги не буде салютів, які заглушать тишу. Ми просто одного дня прокинемось і вперше за довгий час почуємо не вибух, а пташку за вікном. І тоді настане момент, коли доведеться знову вчитись говорити, слухати, писати. Але вже інакше.

Українська стійкість сьогодні стала явищем, яке привертає увагу всього світу. Багато хто намагається зрозуміти, звідки береться ця сила — здатність вистояти, підтримати одне одного й відновлювати життя навіть після найважчих випробувань.

Нове загострення на Близькому Сході змінює глобальний порядок денний. Для України це означає не лише дипломатичні виклики, а й потенційні ризики для військової підтримки.

Російська війна проти України нищить не лише міста й життя людей, а й культурну спадщину. У Німеччині через фотографії показали масштаб цих втрат і нагадали світу, що знищення пам’яток — це також спроба стерти історію.

Документальний фільм «Аби скоріше весна» (Hoping for Spring) розповідає про життя киян під час найтемнішої зими 2026 року, коли масовані російські атаки спричинили масштабну енергетичну кризу. Це історія про людей, які посеред блекаутів, морозів і виснаження намагалися зберегти тепло, людяність та світло всередині себе.
