On June 7, 2025, the General Assembly of the NGO “Student Journalism Platform” was held. During the meeting, members of the organization approved reports on activities carried out from Q4 2023 to Q1 2025, discussed accomplishments, and outlined future directions for the coming years.

Journalism students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University met with Leif Lonsmann—a media consultant from the Nordic Journalism Center (Denmark) — as part of a series of workshops titled “Truthful Media in Times of War.” The event, organized in cooperation with Ukrainian institutions, including the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and the NGO “Student Journalism Platform,” focused on media literacy and digital resilience during wartime.

On May 28, a workshop was held at King Danylo University by foreign guest professors – Amund Myklebust and Leif Lønsmann. The event was organized by the higher education institution in collaboration with the NGO “Student Journalism Platform”.

The NGO “Platform for Student Journalism” has united three universities to implement an ambitious project, with the first step being an English-language course titled “The Norwegian Model of Freedom of Speech for Ukrainian Journalism Students.”

The Syrian community in Edinburgh gathered at Bristo Square on Sunday, December 8, to celebrate what they see as a turning point for their homeland: the fall of Bashar al-Assad regime and dictatorship in Syria. A vibrant crowd danced, sang, and celebrated the pivotal declaration of the capital city of Damascus as “free” by Syrian rebel forces, marking an end to years of tyranny.

On May 18, our partners, the Separate Division of the NGO «AIESEC in Ukraine» in Kyiv, held an event dedicated to the career beginnings of Ukrainian youth. The Youth2Business event gathered 65 participants and provided a great opportunity to expand knowledge in the areas of personal and professional development for young people. It also offered detailed insights into the launch of the COKE INTERNSHIP 2024 in Ukraine.

The NGO Student Journalism Platform as an entity in the field of online media, namely, social media pages and the Truthful Reporting website.

The Sospilnist Foundation, with the support of Internews-Ukraine and the online publication Detector Media, invites final-year bachelor’s and master’s students from journalism schools from all regions of the country to participate in the competitive selection for the «Media Mobility Hub» internship program.

Dear readers, we have got some really great news today: the Norwegian foundation Fritt Ord has given a positive response to a grant application from our NGO. We applied with a project called “War Diary: Stories of Ukrainian Resistance”.

The guest lecturer for the final meeting was Austin Malloy, an American journalist, multimedia editor, and video journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Austin has extensive experience working in post-Soviet countries, including stints at the Kyiv Post and Voice of America. He shared his perspectives on the journalism profession in modern times and talked about his own professional journey. Responding to students’ questions, the guest emphasized that despite the rapid pace of information technology development, the fundamental skill for journalists remains creating texts.

On April 18, a lecture on “Ukraine, Russian propaganda, and Norwegian media” took place. This time the speaker was Bjоrn Johan Berger, a Norwegian blogger, a member of the Board of the Norwegian-Ukrainian Friendship Society, and a freelance author for several Norwegian newspapers and magazines. Bjоrn introduced students to the mood in Norway, characterizing it as “deep historical calm” and “naivety.” At the same time, he noted that the younger generation of Norwegians demonstrates a high level of media literacy.

Matthias Vedeler, an advisor to the Norwegian Press Council, which serves as a public regulator in conflicts regarding the violation of rights and adherence to journalistic standards, told students about the specifics of applying the Journalist’s Ethical Code in Norway.

Media and democracy, how do they coexist and depend on each other? Leif Lonsmann acquainted students with the role of a free press in democratic countries, emphasizing that the media should deliver truth to society and shape public opinion. They also discussed how the free media manifests itself as the fourth estate in a country.

How to start a dialogue with the characters of the plot? What to do when people are against being filmed? These questions were discussed at the lecture by Dr. Andrew Giarelli, a professor at the Anglo-American University in Prague, which marked the beginning of the partnership certificate course “True Reporting: Even When It Hurts” from Volodymyr Dahl National University and the Student Journalism Platform NGO.

The free certificate course offers Ukrainian university journalism students a unique opportunity to engage with an international team of media experts. You will not only deepen your knowledge essential for working in the challenging conditions of modern journalism but also enhance your English communication skills. Understanding that Ukraine is facing military aggression from the Russian Federation, it is crucial to learn to tell truthful and objective stories, expose fake news, and combat consciousness manipulation through mass media, even when it hurts.

More than 500 individuals gathered for a solidarity rally with Ukraine in Edinburgh, commemorating the second anniversary of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. The initiative “Ukrainian Victory Campaign” alongside local activists, organized a demonstration “United for Ukraine – Together to Victory” near the Consulate General of Russia in Edinburgh on February 24, 2024.

In a show of solidarity, Ukrainians gathered in the heart of Scotland’s capital to protest against the relentless Russian shelling targeting Ukrainian cities. The Ukrainian Victory Campaign organized the demonstration on January 3, uniting dozens of Ukrainians from various regions of Scotland outside the Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh.

The history of the modern Donetsk region has deep roots intertwined with the history of the Ukrainian people. Russian occupiers faced resistance from the pro-Ukrainian movement in Donetsk.

We are pleased to announce that Truthful Reporting, a media outlet of the NGO “Student Journalism Platform”, will receive a new grant to continue one of our projects. We’ve been happy to receive a positive answer to our grant application.

We have good news for you: recently the founders of our NGO, the Student Journalism Platform, prepared the final report on the completion of the grant project “Ukrainian youth is changing the world”. We attached the document and sent it through a special portal of our donor Fritt Ord, created for those who received a grant and have to report at the end.

A few days ago we received a positive response from the Norwegian foundation, saying that the report had been approved and that everything had been done according to the rules and regulations for grant projects..

This course, Oral Communication Techniques in Broadcast Media, aims to help students pursuing careers in journalism, particularly in broadcast media, develop and strengthen their oral communication skills. The course objectives include mastering the theoretical and practical techniques necessary for correct breathing, voice production, articulation, diction, and pronunciation.

AIESEC’s Two-Day Offline Hackathon is an attempt by the youth to address the challenges of war in various business sectors and hack their potential to contribute to Ukraine’s economic development

From October 5th to 15th, the annual Warsaw International Film Festival took place in Poland. Ukraine participated in the 39th edition of the festival. Nine Ukrainian films were presented, three of which were created with state support.

On Sunday, September 15th, the occupiers, with the support of aviation, launched an unsuccessful assault on the Avdiivka direction in the areas of Avdiivka, Keramika, Stepove, Tonenke, and Severne in Donetsk Oblast. This information was reported in the evening summary by the General Staff.

On October 11, the United States declared a new military assistance package for Ukraine. The total amount of it is $200 million.

A meeting of representatives of the NGOs “Student Journalism Platform” and “Kyiv Defenders” was held, where a plan for implementing the objectives of the Memorandum was determined.
