“Life and War: 10 Ukrainians – 10 Stories” is a project in which journalists tell the stories of people whose lives have changed since February 24. The heroine of this story is Lyudmyla Afanasieva. She is the wife of the well-known Crimean activist and political prisoner Gennadiy Afanasiev, who was involved in the case of Oleg Sentsov, which took place in Crimea in 2014.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the city of Lviv has become a real centre of humanitarian aid. A centre where many volunteers work for the victory of our country.

As part of the project “Life and War: 10 Ukrainians – 10 Stories”, students from the United States, Turkey, and Ukraine talked to one of these volunteers, the student mayor of Lviv, Stanislav Hvozdinsky.

10 Ukrainians – 10 stories, each of which touches our hearts. A project that reveals a part of the soul of those who fight and continue to fight for the freedom of Ukraine. This is a project that tells how people’s lives changed after February 24, 2022. As part of this project, interviews were conducted with 10 speakers, where students from the USA, Turkey, and Ukraine asked them questions and discussed important topics.

Asan Isenadzhiyev is a Crimean Tatar, originally from Hireya. Before the war, he worked in an ambulance. During the defense of Mariupol, the medic helped the wounded at Azovstal.

Extraordinary and desperate volunteers Mykola Eismont and Nadiya Anokhin shared their experience and told for interview of the project “Life and war: 10 Ukrainians – 10 stories” about the changes in their lives after February 24 and about their help from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and immigrants

Hanna Ryasna – holder of the Order of Princess Olga III degree, director of the regional communal institution “Luhansk Regional Center for Support of Youth Initiatives and Social Research”.  Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Anna moved from Lysychansk to Dnipro.  Her husband went to the front, she began to help the residents of her hometown, who remained there, and the displaced.

Said Ismagilov used to be a spiritual leader, Islamic scholar and mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma”. However, after the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, he decided to completely change his life. Now, Said works as a paramedic driver in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and evacuates wounded soldiers from “hot spots” on the front line.

Sumy is a city that was one of the first to face a full-scale invasion and survived despite everything. As part of the international project “10 Ukrainians – 10 stories”, we were lucky enough to talk with Dmytro Tishchenko from Sumy, who until February 24, 2022 was engaged in media management and public activities.

The hero of today’s interview is Borys Cherkas, doctor of historical sciences, professor, leading researcher of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, researcher of the history of the Black Sea region and the steppe of the Middle Ages. But now, in the conditions of a “hot war”, he is the commander of an infantry company of the Armed Forces.
