Odesa is home to the Odesa National Medical University (ONMedU), founded in 1900, which has more than 5000 students. We contacted some of the students to find out more about the new conditions of their studies.
By sharing this story, we want to draw society’s attention to the issue of violence against women, which has become particularly acute since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The state of Ukraine and we, its citizens, must do everything possible to ensure unimpeded access to legal, psychological, and other necessary assistance for those who have suffered from violence. Unfortunately, as experience shows, we will hear many more such stories after the de-occupation of our territories.
When someone tells a very emotional story, I may look like a completely indifferent person. But that is the barrier that every volunteer has to build, otherwise they will only have the energy for one or three such stories. This does not mean that there is no empathy, no, there is. But a certain coldness helps.
