Youth Employment Issue

Contemporary youth in Ukraine are concerned about the country’s future, yet they hold the key to addressing our current and future challenges. One of the difficulties many of them face is employment. Ukraine should adopt the best practices from the EU to attract the youth, as many young professionals seek opportunities abroad, leaving our country in search of solutions.

The emigration of young professionals abroad is a global phenomenon with several aspects and motives, including the pursuit of better opportunities, the desire to gain international experience, aspirations for personal growth and travel, as well as factors like political instability and social issues.

The issue of youth employment in Ukraine is also relevant and complex, impacting various aspects of societal life. Youth represents the future of the country, but their integration into the labor market is challenging due to systemic problems.

Many young professionals seek jobs abroad because they can find better working conditions, higher salaries, and career development opportunities there. There is also a problem with providing young professionals with decent job opportunities and suitable working conditions. All these factors contribute to the emigration of young professionals, affecting the economy. This situation jeopardizes the country’s future, demanding attention and systemic changes.

Various approaches to retaining young talent exist in European countries, and these approaches should be implemented in Ukraine. Their effectiveness has been proven over the years:

  1. Good Working Conditions: European countries provide fair wages and social protection to their young professionals.
  2. Access to Scientific Research: Many European countries invest in research and provide opportunities for young researchers to participate in scientific projects.
  3. Innovative Sectors: The development of innovative sectors like information technology and biotechnology can attract young people with a flair for innovation and startups.
  4. Support for Entrepreneurship: Providing access to financial support and guidance for young entrepreneurs can stimulate the creation of new businesses.
  5. Cultural Diversity: Openness to different cultures and languages can create an attractive environment for young professionals.

Retaining young professionals is a crucial strategy for ensuring a country’s competitiveness in the global economy. Many European countries actively work in this direction. To address this issue in Ukraine, comprehensive actions are needed, including creating new job opportunities, raising salary levels, reforming the education and training system, and supporting young people in their job search and professional development. This is an essential step toward securing Ukraine’s stable economic future and fostering the development of its young generation.
