This is story is about fighting on the frontline, fighting for life and healing, fighting for faith and family. It’s about Vadym, a veteran who faced the horrors of a blast injury, severe wounds, a grueling rehabilitation, and an inner fight for peace of mind. Vadym honestly tells about the long road to recovery. Months were filled with pain, perseverance, and hope. This is a story of resilience, a will that wouldn’t bend.

On June 7, 2025, the General Assembly of the NGO “Student Journalism Platform” was held. During the meeting, members of the organization approved reports on activities carried out from Q4 2023 to Q1 2025, discussed accomplishments, and outlined future directions for the coming years.

Telling the stories of Ukrainians who were victims of Russian aggression, honouring the civilians and military who gave their lives for our freedom — all this is of great value today, when Ukraine has been defending its independence from the Russian army for more than 10 years. These are people with their own history, with different dreams and goals, and we need to know about them. That is why it is so important that the project that preserves the memory of our heroes and tells their stories, the Memorial Platform:Victims of Russia, was recognised as the best social project of 2024 in the annual award organised by the Ukrayinska Pravda media outlet. 
We were delighted to have the opportunity to speak with Yulia Lozynska, the editor-in-chief of the platform.

Playwright, screenwriter, journalist and war correspondent Oksana Grytsenko is sharing her years of professional experience, advice and valuable insights from working in the media with our students. Oksana has long worked in English language journalism, travelling to and reporting from war zones. In recent years, she has been writing plays, which have been performed in various cities in Ukraine and abroad. And her play Don Juan of Zhashkiv became the basis for the script of a feature film of the same name, to be produced by Kristi Films in 2021. 

The NGO “Student Journalism Platform” invites active, creative and caring young people to join the work of our online publication Truthful Reporting.

The NGO Student Journalism Platform as an entity in the field of online media, namely, social media pages and the Truthful Reporting website.

At first, no one believed that Nadiya Radchuk from Rivne had the right idea to visit the wounded in hospital. But the 24-year-old president of the Rivne Rotaract Club persevered, and was touched by the gratitude of the wounded. Now, more people are joining the initiative, and Nadiya is looking for ways to expand support for the wounded.

During the unfolding Russian war in Ukraine, the story of Kateryna Sementsova, who hails from the Donetsk region, takes on profound significance. It’s crucial to note that for over a decade, this region has been embroiled in a Russian war. Amid instability and danger, Kateryna has become a refugee more than once. Her narrative not only reflects her struggle for survival during wartime but also underscores the importance of preserving cultural heritage and self-awareness amidst migration.

We are delighted that Sofia Meleshko, a volunteer and journalist, has answered the call to tell her story. Sofia currently works as a volunteer and military interpreter for the NGO “Sabre”, which provides training and advice to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard and the TR (Territorial defense forces).

For Svitlana Pochepets, a resident of Kyiv, the first two weeks of the occupation were the most terrifying in almost two years of large-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. Although the occupiers did not enter the village of the dacha where she lived with her family because of its good geographical location, it was unbearable to leave through a Russian checkpoint, to see the destroyed buildings, the foreign flag and to hear the enemy language.

We are pleased to announce that Truthful Reporting, a media outlet of the NGO “Student Journalism Platform”, will receive a new grant to continue one of our projects. We’ve been happy to receive a positive answer to our grant application.

By sharing this story, we want to draw society’s attention to the issue of violence against women, which has become particularly acute since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The state of Ukraine and we, its citizens, must do everything possible to ensure unimpeded access to legal, psychological, and other necessary assistance for those who have suffered from violence. Unfortunately, as experience shows, we will hear many more such stories after the de-occupation of our territories.

One of the most crucial aspects of the cultural identity of the Ukrainian people is the state language. The attitude of citizens towards the language and its significance has been particularly influenced by Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine (since 2014). To find out how the younger generation has changed its perception of the Ukrainian language and its role in the country’s life, we conducted a survey among students of the Volodymyr Dahl Eastern Ukrainian National University.

Our partners, NGO “Kyiv Defenders”, interviewed an American who came to defend the independence of Ukraine. “During the conversation, Alex “Beef” impressed us with his preparation and steadfastness. Unfortunately, on the eve of the release of the interview, we learned that Alex was seriously injured and is currently being treated. We thank him for protecting our country and wish him a speedy recovery,” the video description says. Further in the material, you can read the video and the full text of the interview.

When someone tells a very emotional story, I may look like a completely indifferent person. But that is the barrier that every volunteer has to build, otherwise they will only have the energy for one or three such stories. This does not mean that there is no empathy, no, there is. But a certain coldness helps.

A meeting of representatives of the NGOs “Student Journalism Platform” and “Kyiv Defenders” was held, where a plan for implementing the objectives of the Memorandum was determined.

On 23rd September 2023, NGO “Student Journalism Platform” held a meeting with its members on the Zoom online platform. The participants discussed several important topics about the organization’s recent work and future plans. The meeting covered ultimately two issues: accepting new members and planning for the future.

Today our students share their thoughts and experiences of the pandemic, how Covid 19 has affected their education and life in general.

For a young person moving to Kyiv for university studies, life can be very challenging. You have to manage your own finances, be able to make some income while continuing your studies. You have to figure out what’s most important to focus on. And of course for the last few years we have all been dealing with the impact of the giant pandemic sweeping through the world and causing institutions to close, including university.

As we’ve become painfully aware recently,   President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko doesn’t want to deal peacefully with any opposition. Instead there have been many arrests, attacks on journalists, activitists, many cases of  human rights violation. The recent news about Protasevich getting arrested immediately spread through the world.
