When the full-scale russian invasion broke out in Ukraine in February 2022, many Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in other countries. Among them was a 23-year-old Yuliia Siemak from Mykolaiv, who found herself in Ottawa, Canada.

Canada is home to the largest Ukrainian diaspora in the world, which strives to preserve its cultural and national identity. This is made possible by the tireless efforts of Ukrainian and Canadian volunteers. The traditional Ukrainian Easter egg painting series of workshops at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Ottawa is an amazing example of how ordinary people are making positive changes in the community. In this article, I talk about the experience and motivation of the Ukrainian-Canadian community in Ottawa that organized Pysanka Workshops to support Ukrainian culture during the full-scale Russian invasion.

This is a project that tells how people’s lives changed after February 24, 2022. As part of this project, interviews were conducted with 10 speakers, where students from the USA, Turkey, and Ukraine asked them questions and discussed important topics.

The project “Ukrainian Youth Changing the World”, supported by the Norwegian organisation “The Fritt Ord Foundation”, aims to collect and publish in Ukrainian and English the stories of achievements and proactive actions of young Ukrainians from different walks of life, with different education, beliefs and lifestyles. As part of the project “Ukrainian youth is changing the world,” we collect and share stories of proactive actions by young Ukrainians with different backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles. Today, Alina Avramenko, a member of the legal department of the charitable foundation “UAID,” will share the story of the foundation’s creation and activities and also talk about why she decided to join the volunteer movement.

Our partners, NGO “Kyiv Defenders”, interviewed an American who came to defend the independence of Ukraine. “During the conversation, Alex “Beef” impressed us with his preparation and steadfastness. Unfortunately, on the eve of the release of the interview, we learned that Alex was seriously injured and is currently being treated. One of the most crucial aspects of the cultural identity of the Ukrainian people is the state language. The attitude of citizens towards the language and its significance has been particularly influenced by Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine (since 2014). To find out how the younger generation has changed its perception of the Ukrainian language and its role in the country’s life, we conducted a survey among students of the Volodymyr Dahl Eastern Ukrainian National University.
