NGO "Student Journalism Platform" held a meeting with its members through Zoom

On 23rd September 2023, NGO “Student Journalism Platform” held a meeting with its members on the Zoom online platform. The participants discussed several important topics about the organization’s recent work and future plans. The meeting covered ultimately two issues: accepting new members and planning for the future.

  • During the meeting we got to discuss the following issues:
    1. Summing up the outcomes of the project “Ukrainian Youth Changing the World”. We received suggestions for improving the project for future applications and we will prepare a report soon to submit to The Fritt Ord Foundation;
  • Discussed the scholarship received from the Public Interest Journalism Lab to develop our editorial team;
  • Additionally, we proposed modernising our website and transitioning to electronic document management, such as through the Vchasno resource;
  • Had a discussion about continuing website work during a funding shortage.
  • Finally, suggestions for new projects.

The meeting concluded with plans for the following discussion topics:

  1. Developing a content plan during the funding shortage (we want to hear ideas on how often to post new material);
  2. Increasing website topics (we are excited to hear from the team on this);
  3. Adding podcasts to the site (We talked about recording podcasts that discuss specific topics covered in our published stories and adding voiceovers to already-published content.);
  4. Support for social media pages (until we have new grants or other kind of financial support).

The meeting was productive, generating numerous fresh ideas and approaches to enhance our online publication’s quality, interest, accessibility, and popularity. Natalia Malynovska, head of the Supervisory Board, suggested we broaden the topics we write about and not solely focus on the war against Russian aggresor. The war is undeniably the most urgent and distressing subject for all of us, but as a editorial team we need to consider and write about other aspects of life that make it captivating: art, social events, books, athletics, pastimes, literature and tourism. We realized that the website must advance numerous perspectives on various subjects and that we should not restrict ourselves to the war. Besides text articles, we should experiment with new ways of delivering information such as audio and video podcasts.
