Today, Serhii Lankin, a volunteer, head of the legal department at the NGO “Active Community of Kyiv” and head of the legal service at the DGV Training Centre, will share his story. He also works with the Association of Families of Azovstal Defenders.

Our partners, NGO “Kyiv Defenders”, interviewed an American who came to defend the independence of Ukraine. “During the conversation, Alex “Beef” impressed us with his preparation and steadfastness. Unfortunately, on the eve of the release of the interview, we learned that Alex was seriously injured and is currently being treated. We thank him for protecting our country and wish him a speedy recovery,” the video description says. Further in the material, you can read the video and the full text of the interview.

When someone tells a very emotional story, I may look like a completely indifferent person. But that is the barrier that every volunteer has to build, otherwise they will only have the energy for one or three such stories. This does not mean that there is no empathy, no, there is. But a certain coldness helps.

Valeria Pokusa and her husband are originally from the Donetsk region. When the fighting for Donetsk airport began in May 2014, they were forced to leave their home and move to Kyiv. And in February 2022, fleeing Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, they left the capital and did not return until the summer of that year.
Throughout this year, the family has been actively involved in volunteer work: Valeriia and her daughter Myroslava bake sweets, which the whole family then sells at a charity fair. 

Youth organizations have become crucial voices in contemporary society, promoting active youth participation, leadership development, and addressing social issues.

From October 5th to 15th, the annual Warsaw International Film Festival took place in Poland. Ukraine participated in the 39th edition of the festival. Nine Ukrainian films were presented, three of which were created with state support.

On Sunday, September 15th, the occupiers, with the support of aviation, launched an unsuccessful assault on the Avdiivka direction in the areas of Avdiivka, Keramika, Stepove, Tonenke, and Severne in Donetsk Oblast. This information was reported in the evening summary by the General Staff.

Contemporary youth in Ukraine are concerned about the country’s future, yet they hold the key to addressing our current and future challenges. One of the difficulties many of them face is employment. Ukraine should adopt the best practices from the EU to attract the youth, as many young professionals seek opportunities abroad, leaving our country in search of solutions.

Today, young psychologist Marta shared her story. She works with people’s problems such as anxiety states, panic attacks, relationship problems, eating disorders, money issues, searching for self-identity, crisis states. Quite often, people who suffer mentally because of the war turn to her.

On October 11, the United States declared a new military assistance package for Ukraine. The total amount of it is $200 million.

A meeting of representatives of the NGOs “Student Journalism Platform” and “Kyiv Defenders” was held, where a plan for implementing the objectives of the Memorandum was determined.

On October 5, 2023, Amund Myklebust, a Norwegian journalist and entrepreneur who has been helping Ukraine with various projects for many years, visited Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. This  country has already become like his second home, since he has been coming here for the past 20 years and connecting with many Ukrainian partners.

At the end of May last year, about ten concerned Kyiv residents organised a small fair to help their friends with the next collection. The event was such a success that the initiators decided to continue.

In a year and a half, the team has grown and the now traditional Sunday charity fair on the grounds of the golden-domed St Michael’s Monastery has become a regular event.

As part of the project “Ukrainian Youth Changing the World,” we collect and share stories of proactive young Ukrainians with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles. Today, the leader and founder of the “OK Fund” will share the story of its creation.

Nataliya has been a resident of Canada for over two decades, and she plays a pivotal role in organizing protests within the Canadian-Ukrainian community in Ottawa. Additionally, she is the driving force behind the non-profit charity «Ottawa Supports Ukraine — OSUDemocracy.»

On 23rd September 2023, NGO “Student Journalism Platform” held a meeting with its members on the Zoom online platform. The participants discussed several important topics about the organization’s recent work and future plans. The meeting covered ultimately two issues: accepting new members and planning for the future.

“Our names are Mykola and Christina, we are a couple and we are both 29”. That’s how Christina Khoydra and Mykola Vasyuk describe themselves, a couple from Kyiv who dreamed of a honeymoon, but instead have been buying reconnaissance and interception equipment, cars and tactical medicine for a year and a half. They have involved their family members in volunteering and invite everyone they meet in everyday life to join the defence forces.

This is the second part of the interview with Olha, where she tells us more about her work with the Vdianchni volunteer foundation, about the collections that have already been closed since the start of the full-scale war, and shares how her perception of the world and her own life has changed as a result of the invasion.

As part of the “Ukrainian youth is changing the world” project, we tell the stories of achievements and proactive actions of young Ukrainians from different walks of life, with different backgrounds, different beliefs and lifestyles. Today, pediatrician Olha Rozhok shares the story of her volunteering at the Vdianchni charity foundation and her experience of being on duty at the Lviv railway station after the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This is the first part of the interview, which will comprise two parts. 

Tetiana, a 25-year-old Ukrainian woman, arrived in Canada just a year ago. Prior to the war, she was involved in the legal migration services business.  Residing in Ottawa, Tetiana has embarked on a path of resilience and transformation. With a determined spirit, she now serves as an invaluable employment consultant within an organization dedicated to empowering newcomers, enabling them to forge brighter futures and acclimate swiftly to their new surroundings. Beyond work, Tetiana is a passionate activist, orchestrating events to support Ukraine against Russian aggression. Her journey epitomizes dedication and solidarity.

Originally from Ternopil and now living in Kyiv, Olga Rymarchuk is a 29-year-old IT programmer. In March 2022, she started raising money for tactical gloves for her military relatives and has so far raised nearly £20,000, which has been used to buy ammunition and military supplies for the front line. All she needed to achieve this was an Instagram page, the support of her family, friends, and colleagues, and pictures of her beloved cat, Josie.
