What color is the heart?

The project aims to collect and publish journalistic materials in Ukrainian and English languages about the education systems in Ukraine and Norway. More specifically, the project covers the methodology of education in kindergartens, the approach to education in schools, and the life of young people at universities in Norway and Ukraine. Thus, the project will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of education in the two countries. It will explore different methods of upbringing in kindergartens, the complexity of the program, and the peculiarities of the psychological aspect. 

The goal of the project is to tell the world what unites the youth of the two countries with different upbringings but common values. These will be journalistic materials of different genres made to identify the common values of the two nations. We are interested in the process of forming young kids’ national identity and moral values. As a result, we will collect journalistic materials about the formation of the two nations. Childhood is where the formation of a citizen begins, and a citizen is someone who will no doubt be part of building their country’s future.

The main objectives of the project:

1. Tell about the advantages and disadvantages of education and to publicize the educational level of Ukraine and Norway. We want to emphasize different values that are the basis for educating young people in different countries (in our case these are Norway and Ukraine);
2. We want to get Ukrainians and Norwegians to pay attention to common issues in the education sector;
3. Suggest borrowing and complementing the advantages of the education system of both countries;
4. And finally, we’d like to provide some practical experience for journalism students. They will be the main drivers of the whole project.

Justification of the project

In modern Europe, Ukraine is usually associated with legends of a neglected educational system, a very difficult curriculum, and outdated teaching. Meanwhile, Ukraine is constantly changing and improving education, reconstructing its curriculum for better and easier learning for young people. So, it is obvious that this project will change the minds of Europeans and dispel some myths. It will also contribute to better mutual understanding, forming deeper cultural contacts between Ukraine and European countries (following the example of Norway).

The project may be especially important for realizing the mental kinship and establishing ties between Ukraine and Norway as two countries with common historical roots (especially if you go back to the times of Kyivan Rus). After all, in response to the existential challenge of brutal and unprovoked Russian aggression, Ukrainian society has demonstrated unprecedented courage, bravery, and military prowess, perhaps at the level of archetypes, that were inherent in the ancient Vikings.

The project will explore the possibility of establishing practical cooperation between Norwegian and Ukrainian journalism students.

Target audience

The project is designed for a wide target audience. At the same time, our priority will be channels of access to young people aged 15 to 35, those who will determine the future of Europe and the world for the next 20 years.

Who will implement the project

The project will be implemented by a team of 3rd year students majoring in Journalism at Taurida National University: these include Christina Chorba, Maria Drozd and Kateryna Myronova together with the NGO “Student Journalism Platform”.
