The protest comes in response to over 500 missile and drone strikes by Russian terrorists on Ukrainian cities in recent days. Advocating for urgent measures, the protesters emphasized key demands, including the provision of combat drones to Ukraine, approval for the use of frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, and the isolation of Russian diplomats in Scotland, along with international organizations supporting them.

Joining the demonstration were representatives of the Ukrainian Club in Edinburgh AUGB Edinburgh, highlighting the importance of collective solidarity in Scotland during the extensive Russian invasion of Ukraine. Officials from the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh affirmed the close ties between the Scottish government and the ongoing support for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion and missile onslaught.

The protest took a poignant turn as the Edinburgh Ukrainian Choir «Oberih», alongside the demonstrators, performed the national anthem of Ukraine. Gratitude was expressed to the Scottish government and people for their assistance during the Russian invasion.

Amid the demonstration, volunteers from Edinburgh Spiders contributed to the production of camouflage nets for the Ukrainian Army, underscoring the significance of ongoing humanitarian efforts supporting those affected by Russian aggression.

Organizers of the event, the Ukrainian Victory Campaign, stressed that the Russian war in Ukraine persists, and they are committed to continuing acts of solidarity in Scotland against Russian terrorism. They are also looking for new team members ready to help develop a local community of activists to help Ukraine. You can join them by filling out the form at the link.

Over the last five days, Russia has unleashed a barrage of at least 500 missiles and attack drones on Ukrainian сities. Media reports indicate that the morning of January 2 saw a devastating Russian missile attack, resulting in a tragic toll of at least five lives – two casualties each in Kyiv and its surrounding region, and an additional fatality in Kharkiv. The aftermath also left over 100 people injured.

Responding to this alarming escalation, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Rishi Sunak.
