Today in Ukraine, there are over 15,000 general secondary education institutions, with only about 2% of them being private. Most private schools are concentrated in major cities such as Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. Some of these institutions are also well-equipped to educate children with disabilities.

Private schools in Ukraine offer individualized programs, instruction in multiple languages, modern facilities, and a wide range of clubs and workshops. They provide students with more knowledge, skills, and abilities that can help them make decisions and think creatively in their adult lives.

And what about Norway?

In Norway, the majority of schools are public, with private schools accounting for only 3% of the total. Private schools in Norway are also primarily located in major cities, and they are equipped to educate children with disabilities.

Before 2005, Norwegian legislation considered private general education schools illegal unless they provided a religious or pedagogical alternative. The only private schools that existed were religious (Christian), Steiner/Waldorf schools, Montessori schools, and Danielson schools. However, the education system in private schools in Norway has since evolved, leading to their popularization among the population. For each class in a private school in Norway, a special approach and methodology are developed, focusing on psychological and educational aspects. Class sizes are typically limited to no more than 12 students. In-depth study of core subjects (mathematics, literature, drawing, etc.), as well as the basics of Christian religion, ethical education, and one elective subject, is emphasized. In the upper grades, students are directed towards and prepared for their future professions, so the selection of subjects is based on the field in which the child envisions themselves in a few years.

The average cost of education in private schools in Ukraine and Norway is approximately $5,000 to $10,000 per year. The exact cost varies depending on the school’s accreditation level, material and technical resources, ownership of the building, and the extent of additional services offered.
