The Phenomenon of Ukrainian Volunteering is a special project dedicated to the stories of people who, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, took on the responsibility of helping others and became an integral part of Ukraine’s volunteer movement. Our goal is to collect and publish authentic stories of volunteers from across Ukraine in both Ukrainian and English. Every day, these volunteers support the military, help civilians, organize humanitarian aid, and respond to the countless challenges brought by the war. This project is about people, responsibility, and resilience. It is about those who continue helping others every day despite exhaustion, danger, personal loss, and uncertainty.

Our focus is not only on the results of volunteer work, but above all on the people behind it. We want to show how volunteering has become an integral part of everyday life in Ukraine, what inspires people to help, the challenges they face, and how they find the strength to continue despite the realities of a full-scale war.
Through these stories, we aim to demonstrate the true scale of Ukraine’s volunteer movement and its importance to the country’s resilience.
The project is intended for a broad audience both in Ukraine and abroad. Particular attention is given to young people aged 18 to 35, who play an important role in Ukraine’s volunteer movement and are helping shape the country’s future.
The project will also be of interest to anyone interested in humanitarian work and international support for Ukraine.
The project is produced by Student Journalism Platform, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization, and Truthful Reporting, its online media platform.
As part of the project, our team of journalists is interviewing Ukrainian volunteers from across the country. The interviews are conducted in Ukrainian, translated into English, and published on the Truthful Reporting website.
The project features 16 in-depth stories of Ukrainian volunteers.
The full interviews are published in both Ukrainian and English on the Truthful Reporting website. Shorter versions are also shared on the project’s Ukrainian- and English-language Instagram pages, helping the stories reach audiences in Ukraine and around the world.
