Without knowing our homeland’s history, we will not have a future. Ukraine is a state with a unique, distinctive culture that sets it apart from other nations. Throughout its existence as a nation, Ukrainians have fought for independence, resisted the oppression of neighboring states, and struggled against Russification, deportations, genocide, and the erasure of all things Ukrainian. This struggle continues today, as the desire for freedom and a better future for their children lives within every Ukrainian and will never fade away.
Ukraine’s culture has always distinguished us among all other nations. No matter how hard Russia has tried to destroy any expression of Ukrainianness and subdue our uniqueness, it has never succeeded. Thanks to our culture and art, the world today knows who Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Maria Prymachenko, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, and others are, as well as what pysanky (Easter eggs), the hopak dance, Petrykivka painting, and Ukrainian embroidered clothing represent.
Culture has always been and will continue to be a powerful driving force in the struggle for a better future.
